My First Aid Kit

After recently getting Wilderness First Aid Certified, I want back and took a hard look at my First Aid Kit we use on Shop Rides, Hikes, Camping Trips, Micro-Tours and Tours.

As I was unpacking my old kit, and organizing supplies for a newly expanded version, I noticed that things fell into 3 broad categories ( I know the practice of putting together a first aid kit is as old as time itself, so I am not professing to any re-invention of the wheel here)

  • Gauze and Bandages

    • 1”x 3’ Adhesive Bandaged

    • 2”x 3” Adhesive Bandaged

    • Gauze pads (2x2, 3x3, 4x4)

    • Adhesive Bandages

    • Knuckle Adhesive Bandage

    • Mini Adhesive Bandage

    • Combine ADB Pad (5x9)

    • Triangular Cravate

    • ACE Wrap

    • Toilet Paper

    • Clotting Sponges

    • Tourniquet

    • Scissors

  • Medicines

    • Excedrin Migraine (mostly for me as I tend to get headaches on campouts, sleeping in tents for some reason

    • Diphenhydramine Tablet (treatment of allergic symptoms)

    • Antiacid Tablets

    • Aspirin

    • Ibuprofen Tablets

    • Acetaminophen Tablets

    • Electrolyte Tablets

  • Wipes and Ointments

    • Chamois Butt’r Anti-Chafe Cream

    • Sunscreen

    • Insect Bite Relief Towelette

    • Antiseptic Towelette

    • Triple Antibiotic Ointment

    • Hydrocortisone Cream

    • First Aid/Burn Cream

Working in such broad categories allowed me to physically organize the materials in logical places. Having the right equipment/materials AND the ability to locate them is crucial to a well organized kit.

All buttoned up. Weighs in at 15 ounces (426 grams), and is 3”x6”x8”

My kit will also include a splint, as many of our activities could leave to broken lims (biking, hiking). Lets hope that never happens!
