NYC Local Bike Tours: Lost in Brooklyn

Join Architect ,Bike Shop Owner and former NYC Bike Messenger Joe Nocella for a 10 mile bike ride that explores some of the many secrets Brooklyn has to offer. Fee covers cost of bike and helmet. Limit 10 riders.


  • 9:30am Meet at 718 Cyclery, 254 3rd Ave, Brooklyn

  • 10:00am Roll out

There will be 10 stops along this 10 mile journey (which will stop for lunch, and return to 718 Cyclery at the ride’s conclusion.

  1. Carroll Street Bridge: Dating from 1889 and still functioning, this is the only Trapezoidal-Retractable bridge left in the world

  2. Stadium Wall: The Brooklyn Tip-Tops, Federal League rivals of the local Dodgers, played in this stadium in 1914-1915.

  3. Burial location of the Maryland 400: The Maryland 400 gave their lives against a powerful British force in order to allow Washington’s Army to retreat to Manhattan during the Battle of Brooklyn in August of 1776.

  4. Blatz Memorial: Stephen Blatz briefly survived a 2 plane collision over Brooklyn that killed 134 people in 1960. The contents of his pockets were poignantly made into a memorial decades ago.

  5. 126 Stirling Place: Damage from the above-mentioned plane crash can be seen on buildings on this block

  6. 640 2nd Place: Former home of Barack Obama

  7. Quaker Cemetery. Although we are not permitted to enter the cemetery, we are allowed to observe the grounds from an outer fence in order to preserve the site’s privacy

  8. Site of Malbone Street Wreck: 93 people lost their lives at this spot in NYC;s deadliest subway crash on 1918. This event was so horrific that the city renamed the street to Empire Blvd.

  9. Site of Ebbets Field: Home of the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1912 to 1957

  10. Clove Road: Original Revolutionary War Road that dates back even farther to a Native America Trail

Once you register, you will be emailed detailed instructions about your tour. We require that tickets are bought at least 2 days in advance.

  • Please note start time of tour, and plan on arriving 30 minutes before so that we can get you sized up and ready to go.

  • Minimum age is 12 years old.

  • We are located at 254 3rd Ave, Brooklyn. The closest subway stop is the R Train to Union Street. You can leave belongings at the shop if necessary.

  • Tour price includes bike and helmet, but does not include any food or drinks along the way.

  • Fitness level is beginner to moderate

  • We will ride rain or shine, but will cancel if the city issues a storm of flood warning. Refunds will be issued in this case.
