This morning, I was met by some of the elder statesmen of the NYC Recumbent Trike community for a group ride in Prospect Park, Brooklyn (NY/USA).
We started our ride at 8am, under absolutely stunning weather conditions. We have endured the usual spate of NYC Summer humidity, so today’s break was a welcome brake.
Prospect Park is a 3.1 mile loop, that has a nice mix of hills, descents and flat leisurely grade. I was a little nervous about the group pace, and my ability to pilot my trike up the hill at the backstretch of the park.
I can’t get over how well the 559 climbed that hill. The 3x10 gearing, and rolling on that rear 26: gear helped. I measured my success sometimes with how many slower saps I pass, and I was passing people climbing in the trike (so, success!)
More than the actual ride, this morning was so fantastic for the company. I got to meet some folks who have been doing this a long time. As I have come to discover, this community is welcoming and helpful.
