2019 Micro-Tour 2 was a ride from New York City to Croton Point Park for a night of camping. We had excellent weather heading up, and a ton of rain on the return.
Packing the “Ten Essentials” whenever you step into the backcountry, even on day hikes or rides, is a good habit. On a basic trip you may use only a few of them or none at all. It’s when something goes awry that you’ll truly appreciate the value of carrying these items that could be essential to your survival.
Since we began our touring series, the 718 Summer Tour has been the Adirondack Loop. This is a well-traveled lap around the Adirondack Park in Northern New York State. Adirondack Park is absolutely stunning and, despite being located in the crowded northeast, is one of the largest nature preserves in the country.
On June 5/6, 2017, 718 Cyclery closed its doors to go on a staff camping trip to Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem, NY. For a shop that is open 362 days/year (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day), this was a major bonding event. We had a good amount of rain, and it was the coldest June day/night in the last 10 years.
