Stillwell Woods Park

S Woods Rd, Woodbury, NY 11797

Description

Intermediate to advanced single track with an additional two miles of challenging hills as well as two miles of separate beginner trail.

Description: Compared to the rocky trails of Westchester and Northern New Jersey, the trails of Long Island are smooth, fast and considerably easier on a technical level. Skilled riders can still enjoy a fast blast around the race-course-like bermed and gullied trails, while beginners will enjoy being able to ride on trails without frequently dismounting, or feeling like they should be wearing shin guards. Stillwell is also a fantastic trail system for singlespeeders, as the hills are modest and there are virtually no slow-speed, high-torque situations. The trails are exceedingly well marked and well cared-for by CLIMB (http://www.climbonline.org), and CLIMB has just recently opened a mountain bike interpretive trail for families and absolute beginners, making Stillwell a perfect “first ride.” Stillwell connects to the Long Island Greenbelt trail, making it possible to ride from Stillwell down the Greenbelt to Bethpage State Park on mountain bike trails (with a number of road crossings, of course). Alternately, many people park at the Greenbelt trail parking lot on Jericho Turnpike and ride up the Greenbelt into Stillwell (www.nycmtb.com)
